Always Yearned After
In amongst the heavy foot traffic,
And the local mart stocking rice cookers in cardboard boxes, dozens of apples in knotted plastic bags, ginger and garlic in loose crates
And the bar next to it fitted with a screen inviting patrons in with the electric imperative to “Eat, Drink, Enjoy”
And the café next to that on a raised platform with students chatting and studying, their laptop lids always open
There stood a parked car.
A bird flies across the road, swoops low and lands on top of the parked car, a magpie-lark
And for a moment, it camouflages perfectly
Then it flies away to a place unknown, always yearned after.
